How to Address Employee Concerns About Late Mark Deductions and the Minimum Wages Act?

umeshvpandya
Dear Seniors,

One of my senior employees is against the rule of one-half day deduction equal to 3 late marks. He is citing the Minimum Wages Act of 1936, Section 8, which states that deductions are not allowed. Please suggest how to respond to the employee because the 3 late marks rule is important for maintaining discipline.

Dear Umesh,

Your senior is absolutely right. Employees need to follow the attendance rules, and we need to make them aware of the need for such rules but not penalize them for defaults always. Instead, make a note of the late comings and counsel them, issue reprimands to improve.

Regards,
Vamsi Krishna
