Hiring Dilemma: How to Verify and Trust a Candidate Who Resigned Without Notice?

Hiring an Employee with Impeccable Credentials

My company has decided to hire an employee with impeccable credentials. We started interviewing this candidate, who is also a high net-worth individual (HNI), and after several interviews, we decided that he is the right choice for the role we are offering in the company. However, we discovered that he had not mentioned to us that he had already resigned from his current company. On the other hand, we had also not offered him any Letter of Intent for the said position.

When we informed him that he would be selected, he then informed us that he had already resigned from his current organization two months ago, but his resignation was yet to be formally accepted.

Verification and Trustworthiness

What verification would you suggest we conduct on this person? How much can this person be trusted in the future? From the interviews, he has cleared all technical and relative aspects with flying colors from the top management.

Did you specifically ask him about his work status?

Anyway, ask for proper relief documents from the last employer. Do your usual background checks and then hire him.

No, we had not asked him about his work status either specifically or in passing. He has also informed that he will give all necessary documents required for the transition.
