What Would Your Vision Be as an HR Head? Seeking Ideas for Interview Prep

Hi everyone,

Recently, I had been to an interview where I was asked to write on a topic on "What will be your vision as an HR head." What do you think could be a vision if you are an HR head? I want some points to prepare for this answer when in the future if I face such a question. Please give your comments.

Hi Reena,

It's an open-ended question, and its answer will vary with an individual. If I were an HR professional, my vision would be to have a "grievance-free" organization where everything should be as planned - a seamless flow of processes. I would aim to have the lowest possible attrition rate, almost negligible salary/appraisal issues, and no subordination/bossism problems. I envision an environment where every employee is aware of their rights and duties to avoid any confusion... the list goes on.

Does it not sound like Rabindranath Tagore's famous poem - "Where the mind is without fear..." :)

Take care,
Yash

Hi Reena,

The answer to your question "What should be your vision as an HR Head" cannot be given in few words as the subject itself is very vast and of due importance. As an HR Head, though not a standard reply, you have to have a crystal clear vision with foresight for upcoming events in the organization. According to me, an HR Head must create such a culture that will help enrich value to the organization in terms of creating a harmonious atmosphere among the employees, achieving complete employee satisfaction, developing the workforce to extract their caliber and maximum output, ensuring uninterrupted workflow, reaching the optimal cost of manpower as per the organization's budget, providing all the required physiological and social security to its employees, and last but not least, maintaining grievance-less smooth functioning of all the work of the organization.

Hi Reena,

HR interview questions are mostly individual-based. They vary from person to person and from company to company. Therefore, I suggest that you do not adopt others' ideas, as they may conflict with your own and potentially create even bigger problems.

What I recommend is, before heading to the company for an interview, try to gather as much information as possible about that specific company. Nowadays, accessing information has become easier through the internet. It is evident that the HR vision of a company is intertwined with the company's vision. Hence, develop a vision of your own that aligns with the company's vision.

Following the above process will certainly assist you.

You are right, Ravi. There is no clear-cut answer to this question. It varies from organization to organization. There are some areas where the HR head should concentrate:

1. Employee job satisfaction, which controls attrition.
2. Employees' role clarity, which enables them to complete their job on time.
3. Clear HR policies should be in place so that there is no room for doubt and confusion among employees, and work/job will not stop because of confusion.

All the best,
