Is an employee obliged to find his/her replacement before quitting a job?

Rodriguesss
On giving my resignation, the authorities have bound me by saying "they accept my resignation on the condition that I must find my own replacement and train the replacement before I leave, else they will not relieve me". Please guide me as to what can be done in a situation like this? Even though I am trying my best to find a replacement I am not able to find a suitable candidate, because of which I am not being relieved and I'm being held back by force.

Hi,
There is no such obligation that resigned employee should find replacement for him before he/she or get relieved. Employer may request to refer suitable candidate and the same cannot be demanded as a matter of right and refusing to relieve is also not right.
However by virtue of good will the resigned employee may recommend suitable profile through his /her known sources.
Practical HR
Nobody can resist you to leaving the organization. It's not your look after to search your successor upon the consequences of your resignation. There are no such rule or act until you are not liable to refund anything related to organization's asset or finance.
Take legal opinion from a well experienced law practitioner and quit organization gracefully instead of searching and thereafter trend a candidate.
