Leaving aside legality part by virtue of role and responsibility one has to follow proper exit process and ensure smooth separation from the employer. At times going by the verdict of law will not help you. If you leave your employer abruptly quoting nil notice period, tomorrow employer will take chance to give back adversely in case of background verification or during reference check.

If there is no separation clause (notice period) in your appointment terms you can discuss with your employer and establish your relieving date which may be immediate after submitting resignation. However get the concurrence of the employer for smooth exit process.
