Facing a 2-Year Bond Dilemma: How to Handle a Job I Left After Just 2 Days?

I joined an IT company with a bond of 2 years as a fresher. I left the company after 2 days of joining as the location was difficult for me to stay. I requested the company to relocate me to a different location, but they said it was not possible to relocate. I got a call from the main branch to work in Mumbai for 2 years or quit the job. I decided to quit the job. Both the manager and HR agreed for me to quit the job.

Then I got a mail from the company to submit a proper resignation letter to the manager. So I sent a resignation letter to the manager and HR. After a few days, I got a mail from the company that due to my absence from work, I will be treated as a case of "voluntary abandonment of work" and I should pay the due salary for the notice period to the company.

I didn’t get any training, not even an ID, laptop, or bank account. They do not even have my documents. All they had is the bond I signed on a Rs. 200 note. My family cannot pay the due amount of 1.3 L to the company. I don’t understand what to do. Please do help me with the issue.

You have joined as a fresher and left the company after 2 days of work. It would have been prudent on your part to check with your HR about your location of work before joining and before signing the bond (training agreement).

As your association with the company was only for 2 days, I don't think they will pursue legal action as they cannot justify your absence as a loss to the company. In the normal course, HR cannot keep an employee file open indefinitely. Hence, to close the file, it is customary to send a letter. You may reply to the letter stating that due to location constraints, you are unable to continue and highlight that your stint with the company was only 2 days.
