Employee ID vs. Reference Number: What's the Difference and Why Does It Matter?

Is there any difference between Employee ID and Ref. No.? If yes, please explain.

Employee ID, Employee Number, or EMP Code are all the same and will be allotted to an employee upon joining. An employee number is a unique code that helps to identify employees with similar names or initials in cases where the workforce is larger. On the other hand, a reference number is different and is used in office correspondences to identify a particular letter or date when multiple correspondences have been emailed or dispatched.
