How Should I Handle a Salary Dispute with an Employee After Probation Ends?

Employee Probation and Salary Dispute

An employee joined the organization on 1st November 2018. His three-month probation period was extended until April (which should have ended in February 2019 but concluded in April). On 30th April, an email was sent to him stating his revised salary and job confirmation.

After receiving the salary hike, he submitted his resignation and did not serve the 30-day notice period. Instead, he stayed with the company for just 20 days. He now requests salary slips, which I will provide for the last three months: April, May, and June, as per the company's rules.

April - 15K (according to his bank statement, verified)
May - 18K
June - 18K

Dispute Over April's Salary Slip

The issue is that he argues his probation ended in April, so his April payslip should show 18K instead of 15K. However, there is no confirmation from the supervisor or the employee. Suddenly, he realized it was 15K for April. I have an email dated 30th April that clearly states his probation is over (though no specific date is mentioned, as we follow the start date of each month). I thought it was clear, but apparently, it is not. I will start mentioning dates. The amount credited to his bank account is also 15K for April and 18K for May.

How much should be put on his salary slip for April? Please give your valuable suggestions. This employee is misbehaving and yelling each day.

Salary Revision and Payslip Amendments

So long as there is no need to revise his salary for April from 15K to 18K, you have no obligation to amend the payslip. This decision is left to his supervisor, if I'm correct. Any amendment with retrospective effect would require special approvals from the competent authority. I assume your email dated 30th April didn't state that his salary revision is effective from April onwards. If this is correct, then you have no obligation.

Handling Arrears and Communication

You should be aware that if you amend the payslip to show Rs. 18K for April, you should be prepared to settle the arrears involved as well. If any communication did not specify a date to 'give effect to,' then you should either ask for clarification/confirmation, or the undated communication can be construed as effective from the date of communication.
