Before giving a direct answer to your query, I would like to request you to go through the provisions of sections 51,54,55 and 56 of the Factories Act,1948 dealing with weekly working hours, daily working hours, intervals for rest and spread over respectively.
Since daily working hours and intervals for rest together form parts of the spread over of work, rest hours are exclusive of the weekly working hours for the term "spread over", though not defined under the Act, would mean the total hours the worker is under the actual disposal of the employer.
