Curious About EPF Pension Withdrawal? Is the 10-Year Rule Really Mandatory?

arunchaithram
Dear All,

I am Arun, working as an HR professional in an industry in Nagercoil. I have some doubts regarding EPF pension. Do we have any minimum period criteria for withdrawing pension? I heard it's 10 years. Is the ten-year period mandatory? Please help me out regarding this query.

Have a great day, Cite HR family. :)

Hi,

Yes, if the employee exceeds 9.6 years of service, then they can't withdraw pension contributions. Instead, he/she will receive a scheme certificate that can be continued with a future employer, and pension benefits will be accessible only after reaching the age of 58.

In the case of service less than 9.6 years, both PF and Pension can be withdrawn. However, it is always advisable to transfer PF and Pension funds to the new employer's PF account to accumulate savings for retirement.
