Understanding the 35% Increase in Tamil Nadu's Minimum Wages for Shops and Commercial Establishments: What Does It Mean for You?

k_shenbagarajan
Dear All, please find attached the Tamil Nadu Minimum Wages - Shops & Commercial Establishment for 2019-20. The Basic Wage has been revised after 5 years, which was due in November 2018. The average CPI index of Chennai city for the year 2018 is 269, with the base year average point set at 161. Consequently, the DA will be 269 (2018 Average) - 161 (Base Year Average) = 108 points increase from last year. Therefore, the DA amount will be 108 * 32.40 = Rs. 3499/- (Rounded off). This represents approximately a 35% increase from last year's minimum wages (Basic + DA).

I am also attaching the draft notification recommendation that was issued in February 2018.

Thank you.
