Is Experience More Valuable Than a Degree in IT MNCs? Share Your Thoughts!

Hi, I wish to understand what counts as the most wanted: experience or the degree. If a candidate had pursued his/her degree through Distance Education mode (for some personal reasons - which could be valid) and possesses good knowledge, exposure, and experience in the area of operation, why should he/she be denied for selection? Because it is imperative to check if the candidate possesses skills that are best suited for the job rather than checking from which school he/she graduated. I admit that is important.

Would there be a situation or exception where the IT MNCs accept the candidate based on experience rather than the degree? Please let me know your views.

Hi Hema,

Your concern is very valid, genuine, and something that bothers the denied majority. Here is a probable reason for it: Every company, especially the top ones, follows a certain process to maintain a particular quality level set by the Quality Control Standards. We have all heard of ISO, CMM Levels, etc. For example, if a company is CMM Level 5, they would ensure that a prospective employee meets specific education criteria to be eligible for a position in that company. The higher the quality standards, the more difficult it is for an ordinary person to get in.

I hope that answers your question.
