Leaving a Job: Is a Pending Work List Necessary if My Replacement is Satisfied?

Dear All, I have some issues regarding my previous employment. I have served a 1-month notice period as per company policy and even trained my replacement. I have details signed by my replacement regarding my handover, and she is satisfied with it. However, the boss is creating issues regarding the same. According to him, the pending work list has to be made and signed by me. But all the work is completed. Is it compulsory to prepare a pending work list while resigning even if my replacement, the one who is going to work further, has no issues? Kindly help me with suggestions on what needs to be done.

If you have served the agreed (as per terms of appointment) notice period and have delivered productive time at work during the notice period, you can't be held for any pending work. It is unfair and illegal on the part of your employer.

Having said this, I advise you to handle this situation tactfully and wisely, as any legal remedy would be time-consuming and uncertain.

I have every proof and even the replacements chat regarding no issues in work. Can you suggest a way for me to handle this situation? He is simply harassing me by sending emails to which I am replying. However, he has a letter stating all false things for which I have evidence against. I need proper guidance as I do not want him to get away easily. He behaves this way with all employees and I do not want anyone else to get stuck in this situation.

You may be right, yet at the same time, it is not entirely accurate to assume that everything is over once your replacement signs the 'takeover report'. As a responsible person in the organization, your boss has every right to request a list of pending issues, if any. Simultaneously, I am unsure why you should feel agitated about this. If all tasks are completed, what is bothering you about preparing a report and expressing so? I would recommend that you compile a list of the assignments you were handling, the responsibilities you were managing individually, and specify their status as of your last working day. If nothing is outstanding, simply state so. By doing this, you fulfill your obligation and can rightfully request the relieving and experience letter. What is required now is to be amicably relieved to facilitate a smooth transition. Avoid becoming agitated as if you are unduly troubled. All the best.
