Eligibility of Company Secretary - Please do guide me if the same would be a good decision for me

I am an MBA with dual specializations in HR and Marketing. Currently, I am working for a bank and have over 6 years of experience in banking. I am considering preparing for the Company Secretary (CS) exam and would like to know if there would be scope for me in this field. Would pursuing a CS qualification be beneficial for my career growth? I am quite serious about this decision and would appreciate your guidance on whether it would be a wise choice for me.

Dear friend,

I would encourage you to acquire more knowledge, experience, and qualifications, which will not be a waste. However, considering your current position in a banking career, obtaining a CS qualification may limit your choices. Instead, I would suggest taking your departmental exam, i.e., CAIIB, which can be an added advantage for your career growth.

On the other hand, if you wish to transition from banking to another field post CS, such as a company registered under the Companies Act, you will have a bright future potentially rising to the board level. This career path would require a Law degree, which is highly desirable as most employers specify a law degree as 'essential' in addition to a CS qualification.

One advantage of pursuing a CS qualification is that it can be completed through a correspondence course, allowing you to study from the comfort of your home or office, with only a few compulsory seminars and lecture sessions, similar to the requirements for becoming a Chartered Accountant.

I hope this guidance helps you in making informed decisions about your career path.

Kind regards,
