Is It Fair to Blame an Ex-HR Employee for an EPF Issue 8 Years Later? How Would You Handle This?

Alok Singh
One of my friends worked at a company for only 1.6 years, and he left the company 8 years ago from the HR department. Currently, the EPF department has organized a PF audit in this company, and they have sent a demand notice to the company for lower basic wages for EPF contributions. The Managing Director of this company has denied the EPFO's claim, stating that our HR Executive (my friend) is responsible for preparing the salary breakup. They have been continuously contacting him, insisting that it was his fault for the lower basic wages, and that the company will file a case against him. However, he left the company 8 years ago.

According to my friend, he has never prepared a salary breakup or salary details. Please help him in this regard.

Wage registers are evidence that he did not alter the salary structure during his employment. This is sufficient to protect himself.
