Pregnant and Facing Unfair Termination: What Are My Rights and Next Steps?

neelam07
Hello, I just want to know my rights. I am working as a PHP Developer. I received a termination email from the company. I am 6 months pregnant and have been working here for 10 months. The company mentioned previously that my performance is slow, but there is no written mail for that. They assigned me work on technologies for which nobody is there to guide me. I asked for a senior person familiar with the technology to provide guidance, but no one had the knowledge.

Termination Notice Discrepancy

In the company policies of my offer letter, I was given a 30-day termination notice, but the company only provided a 7-day notice. On my final day, I asked the boss for 1 month's salary for termination. He became angry and threatened to cut my 2 days' salary if I took any leave during the termination period. He denied me any half-day or full-day leave, stating that he would deduct 2 days' salary for any leave taken. When I asked for the policy regarding this deduction, the company shared a 35-page PDF that is not shareable or copyable, outlining rules beneficial to the company. It also stated that maternity leave is only allowed after one year of working.

Salary and Leave Issues

I also requested my last month's salary and salary slip, but the boss instructed me to drop a mail detailing my requests. However, I have yet to receive my salary. What rights do I have, and what actions can I take regarding this situation? On 26th January, the company had a holiday, but they did not provide the salary for that day to any employee, counting it as a holiday.

Dear Neelam,

Your narrative makes it clear that your employer has scant regard for the law as well as ethics. Have you officially informed them about your pregnancy before they decided to terminate your services?
