Is It Legal to Cut Maternity Leave from 26 Weeks to 8 Weeks for Our Employees?

Hello,

We are registered under the Goa Shop & Establishment Act. I would like to know if it's okay to reduce the duration of maternity leave for female employees from 26 weeks to 8 weeks. Please advise.

What is prescribed in the law of the land cannot be altered by your office.

Are you paying her for the period of leave?

Sections 18 and 19 of the Goa Shops and Establishment Act are referenced, along with any amendments thereto.
