Choosing Between Regular and Correspondence MBA in HR: Which Path Offers Better Opportunities?

I am pursuing BCA second year through correspondence, and I just want to do an MBA in Human Resources. Now my doubt is whether to do MBA through regular or correspondence. Which is the best way of exploring ourselves (Either Regular or correspondence)? I want to do it through regular, and my parents are suggesting doing it through correspondence. If I am doing it through correspondence, then what is the best business school to enroll myself in MBA? Expecting all your valuable suggestions.

Go for a regular course as it has better value and check out which institutes provide good knowledge of HR. I have heard a lot about XLRI for HR.

The best institute I have heard of for pursuing an MBA in HR through a correspondence course is the National Institute of Personnel Management in Kolkata. It is a premier institute that has been offering HR studies for over five decades.

First of all, it is up to you what you have to do, either you would go for regular or opt for correspondence. Both of them have their own benefits. Regular is regular. Mostly, those people who are working or others who opt for correspondence. Now, you are just a student, so you must go for regular. As you are pursuing BCA, how do you manage both studies and also those who have completed their graduation or are final year students, who are eligible for an MBA?

Brief the above to your parents.

If you have a lack of time or some other assignments, then you should go for distance education. For distance education, SCDL is a renowned organization.

There is nothing "one best" in the management world. Institutes like XLRI and TISS are famous. However, there is another college that imparts excellent knowledge of HR - MHROD (Masters of Human Resource & Organizational Development) from Delhi School of Economics, Delhi University. It is renowned but not widely popularized because it is a government institute. There is no need to mention its credibility as the degree is awarded by Delhi University. And yes, it is a regular course.

If you are working, go for correspondence; otherwise, go for regular as it will be better. In correspondence, the best options are IGNOU, Symbiosis, ICFA. I hear good things about these institutions.

Categorization of the Top 75 Institutes in India

The top 75 management institutes in the country have been divided into five broad categories. A numerical ranking often does not have a sound scientific basis. The parameters and, more importantly, the weightages given to these tend to be extremely subjective. The resultant rankings too are thus subject to many fierce debates. In this case, T.I.M.E. has used its extensive student database and experience in the field to categorize the top 75 institutes.

Broadly speaking, these categories are meant to aid the students in applying to institutes. Within a category, the institutes are of approximately the same quality. Of course, the categorization is only indicative, and students should make independent inquiries before taking a final decision about which institutes to apply to.

The Top 10 are the so-called 'ivy-league' institutes that every student dreams of getting admission to. Many of these institutes are comparable with the best institutes in the world. Indeed, some of them regularly feature in the lists released by international business magazines.

These institutes invariably have a 100% placement record. Even the not-so-good students at these institutes manage to get very good jobs on account of the rub-off effect of the institute.

The Top 4 specialization institutes have been placed in a separate category. These are institutes that do not offer a general MBA like the other institutes. Rather, they offer a specialization in a particular functional area. All these institutes would rank among the Top 20 institutes in India, and some of them could even lay claim to a Top 10 position. Placements at these institutes are normally pretty good even though they are restricted to the functional area that the institute specializes in. XLRI's PM&IR program would also fall in this category.

The "A+" and "A" categories of institutes are those that fall into the Top 30. They offer a high quality of education in terms of faculty quality and infrastructure facilities. These institutes usually have a 100% placement record. Only the poor performers at these institutes may have some difficulties regarding placements. Some of the top students at these institutes should be able to secure placements that are comparable to those offered at the Top 10 institutes. Most students should be more than happy to join these institutes if they are able to get admission.

The "B+" category of institutes offers a consistent quality of education in terms of faculty quality and infrastructure facilities even though these may not be comparable to those of the top institutes. These institutes are successful in providing placements to their top students, especially those with good communication skills, but do not have a 100% placement record. A student at one of these institutes would have to work extra hard to secure a good rank and high marks so as to enhance his placement chances.

The "B" category of institutes is well regarded at a local level. These institutes may not provide too many national-level placement opportunities but are generally successful in providing placements to many of their students with prominent local companies.

Hi,

A correspondence course usually helps only those who are already working and not those who are currently not working in a functional role. Since you are already an HR executive, it is good to hold onto your job and pursue a correspondence course. When it comes to institutions, many options exist, but more than the name, it is your experience and skills that ultimately determine your future. I would recommend NIPM Calcutta, which I believe is ideal, and I recently noticed they advertised as well. In Delhi, there are part-time MBA programs available. Opt for reputable institutions as they are more recognizable.
