Unpaid Leave and Leave Without Wages
Unpaid leave or leave without wages should be treated with extraordinary care and must only be approved for specific genuine reasons. Otherwise, it may lead to indiscipline. These extended leaves (I'm not referring to occasional 1-2 days LWP) should be approved through various levels, with final sanctioning by higher authority. There should also be a rule defining the maximum number of such leaves that can be sanctioned during an employee's lifetime.
Sabbaticals and Extraordinary Leave
For reasons like pursuing higher education, a Sabbatical may be appropriate, where only the lien is maintained, and the employee will not receive any other benefits. In the case of extraordinary leave or leave without wages, the employee should be entitled to certain benefits, such as medical insurance.
