Please, can anyone tell me about Casual Leave procedure in a Private company? Is there any kind of restriction to give CL compared with the number of days in a year?

Casual leave, privileged leave, or sick leave depend upon the nature of the industry and the state where it is functioning. For example, a factory-type establishment will typically offer only annual leave with wages, which is equal to 1 day for every 20 days worked in the preceding year. In the case of shops and commercial establishments, the number of leaves is governed by the state Acts. Generally, it will be 12 days of casual leave, 12 days of sick leave, and 12 days of privileged leave (privileged leave will be accrued once the employee completes 12 months of service).

For your information, I only want to know about CL, not EL/SL. For example, how many CL can I give an employee if he/she is new or under probation period, or facing such issues? If an employee requests 7 days of CL within a 3 to 4-month period, should I provide this?

Hi there!

Usually, in a private company, the leave procedures are followed as per their policies in place. CLs are credited at the beginning of the calendar year. CLs are not given for more than 2 days at a stretch, and employees need to obtain prior approval before proceeding on leave. Management reserves the right to reject leave requests due to various reasons, including work exigencies. If an employee on probation takes 7 days of leave under CL, the employer can inform them and prevent further leave under this category.

Sorry, ANONYMOUS, I did not know that you need to know only how much CL you should give to your employees. I thought you also expect the same descriptive knowledge from me. I did not know that you knew everything about PL and SL but not CL. I used to give a reply with a detailed explanation, and that's why I wrote those details. Now, for my information, can you share one more thing, i.e., under which Act your business establishment is registered? My reply had a mention about it. But you did not provide that information to me in your reply.
