Facing a Tough Choice: How to Handle Maternity Leave Extension Denial and Notice Period Waiver?

RK186
My child is 6 months old now and is anemic. The doctor advised frequent feeding for at least 3 months as he is not taking proper solids. I am currently on maternity leave and will need to request an extension. If they don't agree, I might have to resign without serving notice and also request a waiver for the notice period. If given the opportunity, I am ready to return or serve the notice period after 3 months. Will they agree? If not, what should I do?

What to do if they don't agree to a notice period waiver?

What if they say they can't wait for 3 months and want to settle now?

Since you have no intention to leave the services and are looking forward to resuming service, but as circumstances are beyond your control, you need to be necessarily with the baby. You should submit an application explaining the situation and seek three months of leave, with pay to the extent of your credit, if any, or without pay as the case may be. I presume you would have some leave to your credit. It is entirely up to the management to favorably consider your request, so appeal to their good senses, assuring them of your committed efforts upon the resumption of duties.

As advised by the knowledgeable member, please submit a requisition letter to the HR/HoD detailing the facts of the issue. Request an extension of the leave period as recommended by the doctor and attach all relevant documentation as evidence for your case. Management will likely consider your leave request unless the role is critical and cannot remain vacant for an extended period without someone overseeing operations. Clearly state your willingness to return to work once the leave period expires.

Hope for the best.

Thanks and Regards
