"Gurugram District Authority under SHWW Act 2013 Seeks Explanation from Defaulting Employers
An Eye Opener For All Employers, Heads of Human Resource, and Management Professionals
A press report dated 1st November 2018 states that 3,000 Gurugram-based establishments have come under the administrative scanner of the State Government Authority. The District Local Committee is seeking explanations from the employers or heads of institutions as to why they failed to comply with the provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition & Redressal) Act 2013. This includes the compulsory filing of the annual report under Section-21 of the aforementioned Act of 2013, which must be signed by the respective Presiding Officer of the Internal Committee constituted under Section-4 by employers of establishments employing ten or more workers.
The SHWW (P, P & R) Act 2013 came into force on 9th December 2013 and applies to every employer of every workplace, including residences where a woman is employed to carry out household work.
The report mentions that the action, initiated by the Local Committee, is in response to the MeToo Campaign.
This serves as an eye-opener, or rather a warning, for all such employers, heads of human resources, and management professionals who failed to implement the provisions of the "Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition & Redressal) Act 2013" and the rules framed thereunder, gazetted on 9th December 2013.
