National Holiday on a Sunday: Do We Need to Declare a Substitute Day Off?

Karthidreams
Dear Seniors,

In our establishment, we have declared 9 days as national festival holidays as per the act. In these declared holidays, for example, 2nd October - Gandhi Jayanthi falls on a Sunday.

It is now mandatory to declare another substitute day as a holiday in place of the 2nd of October. Please clarify my query and provide any relevant document regarding the same.

Hi,

It is more to do with the policies of the company. It is not specified as such under the Shops & Establishments Act. There are some compulsory holidays that have to be followed, and exceptions, if any, have to be taken from the concerned authorities. But nowhere is it mentioned that holidays, if they fall on Saturday/Sunday, have to be compensated. The company has to take employees' interests into consideration and act accordingly.

Thanks and Regards
