Hello all, I want to understand what could be the possible reasons why a responsible employee is progressing towards insubordination. Please give me your views/thoughts.

This is a very generic question.

Causes could be:

- Frustration at events
- Perceived feeling of being treated unjustly
- Feeling unrecognized or taken for granted
- Ill treatment in the office

Probably, you need to call the employee and have a heart-to-heart talk, shedding all barriers of rank/status/designation, and try to read his mind, understanding both what is said and unsaid.

Dear Anony,

Following could be some of the reasons according to me:

1. Differences with management or with reporting authority, could be in working style or approach towards business/conflict of ideas.
2. Employee could be in a burnout stage - lacks motivation or focus.
3. Stress due to office or personal issues.
4. Lack of belief in the management.
5. In retaliation to organization's inhuman practices or rude behavior of the management/reporting manager.

Regards,
Rahul
