Facing a Legal Audit Failure in HR: What Actions Might Follow and How Can We Respond?

I am currently employed as an HR executive in a private limited company.

I have a doubt regarding the legal audit failure and just wanted to ask if auditors were to find any problem in our records, what action will they be likely to take on us and what steps can I take to solve the issue?

Legal audit will give their report to management. The action is to be taken to comply with all deficiencies and shortcomings as pointed out. Maybe someone will be punished if irregularities are serious in nature. Audit cannot take direct action against HR; the management has to make a decision.
