What if legal audit in HR fails - what action can they take and how can we help the situation

I am currently employed as anH.R executive in a private limited company.
I have a doubt regarding the legal audit failure and just wanted to ask if auditors were to find any problem in our record, what action will they be likely to take on us and what steps can I take to solve the issue?

Legal audit will give their report to management.
Then action is to be taken to comply with all infirmities, shortfalls as pointed out.
Maybe some one will be punished if irregularities are serious in nature.
Audoit cannot take direct action against HR, the management has to take a call.
