This is Sridhar Rajan. I have been working as an HR at an engineering firm. My boss has tasked me with recruiting experienced engineers with a gross salary of 25,000. How should I structure this according to factory norms?

Thank you,

Dear Sridhar Rajan,

You are advised to contact a Chartered Accountant. The CA would suggest viewing the present tax structures and different legislations in force to ensure the interests of the employer and employee are safeguarded. You will benefit from this and also gain a better understanding of the facts.

Thank you for the solution provided. However, I have a doubt regarding the total amount of Rs. 25,350 gross, which is the breakdown you mentioned.

Dear colleague,

The salary/wages are not governed by the Factories Act. As an HR professional, you should have known this. The break up of salary is based on the company's policy and differs from company to company. However, when breaking it into the various components, one has to consider prevailing income tax exemptions/rebate so that the employee gets a good take-home salary.
