How to Handle Job Verification When Your Previous Company Shut Down? Need Advice!

Krishan Pratap
I am planning to join an MNC, and they want a relieving/experience letter from my previous employer (my first company). I joined that company in 2015, and in 2016, the company shut down. I have all other relevant documents, such as:

- Offer Letter
- Form 16
- Salary Slips
- Bank Statements
- PF A/c Details

Is it mandatory to provide a relieving/experience letter for third-party verification?

PS- After the shutdown of my first company, I later joined another company in 2016. I have all the documents from my current employer.

When the company is closed, communicate the same and provide the related documents you possess. Even though HR may not explicitly request them, having all the related documents from your current company should not pose an issue in my opinion.

All the best,

Hi,

As part of the documentation procedure, the experience and the relieving letter are mandatory. It's also a mandate for the HR person to provide every employee with their relieving letters. Please dig out the details of the HR and the person who owns the company and obtain it from them. They will be able to help you out.

During the third-party verification, provide the details of the person who owns the company, including their designation and contact number. Request him to answer the call.

Sometimes, such situations can happen since a relieving letter is very mandatory in every case. No company nowadays accepts a candidate without one. But if the case is such that there is no way to obtain the same, you can either contact the previous HR or even ask your new employer to cross-check with the previous employer about your authenticity.
