Facing a False Dowry Case Before Joining KPMG: Will It Affect My Job Offer?

Amit Verma1
Dear members,

I have received a job offer from a very good MNC (KPMG). My wife is going to file a false dowry 498A and DV case. I was called by the Mediation Center for counseling. When I applied for the job, I mentioned "NO" for two questions:

1. Have you ever been convicted of a criminal offense?
2. Has anyone ever filed/logged an FIR against you?

I mentioned "NO" because there was no FIR at the time of filling out the application. I will be joining the company next week, and I am expecting an FIR against me. Will the company expel me from employment because I mentioned "NO"? The company will conduct a background check post-joining and find out about the FIR against me. The FIR is expected to be filed within a week of the joining date. Will KPMG consider it fraud for providing misinformation in the application? I was going through Mediation counseling while applying for the job, but that is not a legal FIR, so I mentioned NO.

I am nervous because I don't want to be expelled. What should I do? Should I inform HR that an FIR is expected when I join the company? I didn't lie on the application form or hide anything. There were no cases/FIR, but I am sure it is going to happen within a week of joining KPMG. Does 498A provide grounds for a private company to terminate the job?

Please help.

Thanks

Mere filing of an FIR against you cannot be the grounds for any contemplated action. Share factual information about the case with your prospective employer. Make use of the mediation center and ongoing mediation/counselling process. Opt for divorce with mutual consent in the larger interest.
