Seeking Guidance on Expanding HR Skills Beyond Recruitment in the IT Industry

Usha Maran
Hi,

I have learned about personnel management and labor laws. Later, I was involved in recruitment functions, and now I want to update myself on general HR functions as well. Can anybody help me with how to proceed? I have some understanding of HR functions in the IT industry, but I feel that it is not enough. Can anybody assist me with this?

Hi,

You can have a better chance to concentrate on core HR functions such as employee relations, training and development, leave cards, attendance, joining formalities, employee benefits, etc. This way, you can start in one division and then easily transition to others.

Hi,

If you are already in the HR Department, request your seniors that you want a change in job and then you can get trained in Core HR.

If you think you need proper training, you can pursue any kind of certifications (for six months or 1 year) and then search for Core HR jobs. Core HR consists of Joining formalities, Exit formalities, Time management, Payroll, Building maintenance & Employee Welfare.

Hi Jothi & Rajesh,

Thank you for your suggestion. I have joined a product development company. I am now focusing on core HR functions. They have asked me to work on HR policies. Can anyone guide me?

Usha
