Long Workday Due to Outstation Travel: Am I Entitled to Compensatory Leave?

jai-trehan
I work for a company covered under the Maharashtra Shops & Establishments Act. I would appreciate it a lot if someone could help me with a query related to outstation travel. I was recently required to travel out of station on duty. I started my journey at 2:30 am via company-paid transport and took a flight. Upon landing, I reported to work in the city I had to work. My day finished at 6:30 pm, post which I was accommodated in a hotel. My query is, given that travel and work lasted from 2:30 am up to 6:30 pm on the same day, does the travel time + work time generate a compensatory off or any other leave given that the entire stretch was 16 hours continuously?

Dear ANONYMOUS Friend,

Today I am in a different mood to answer. I would like to advise you to restrict your working hours even during your outstation trips, including travel time. It is against the law. There is no provision in the S&E Act or any other act for compensatory time off or any other leave for your travel and work time outstation.

Please keep in mind that certain issues can be resolved by discussing them with your boss or employer rather than solely relying on legal aspects.
