For an employee covered under ESI, if he dies in service, does ESI provide a pension to the family or a lump sum compensation?

Dependent Benefit under ESIC

1. Sir, technically speaking, no pension is paid by ESIC if the covered employee dies in service. The correct term for such a pension is called "Dependent Benefit," i.e., DB.

2. Dependent Benefit is paid to dependents of a deceased employee as defined in the ESI Act, 1948, and only if the covered employee dies as a result of an employment injury or accident that occurred due to and in the course of employment.

3. You can view and download literature on the different benefits admissible under the above Act from the ESIC website.
