Short-Term Leave Approved, but Manager Left the Company – Should Approval Still Stand?

naren99
In a situation where a short-term leave approval (1-3 days) remains valid regardless of the reporting manager who approved the leave exiting the organization, should there be another layer of approval after the manager's departure? Consideration should be given to the approved leave date/dates falling after the manager's exit.

If leave is approved and the manager then exits, it should not make a difference unless the new manager disapproves or cancels the leave.

If you availed the leave by now, it will be considered as approved leave. If your leave is for a future date, then it depends upon the new manager's approval.

In most cases, when a new person takes charge, all leave that was sanctioned at a prior date is normally canceled. This is done to assess the situation and interact with staff and subordinates. Please check the status with your HR before proceeding on leave.

Dear Friend,

Your query is specifically about short-term leave, and as stated by senior friend Mr. Nathrao, it does not make a difference. However, if it is a long leave during the transition period from the Manager's exit to the new Manager's entry, you need to obtain a separate layer of approval either from the General Manager or the related Head of Department, sanctioned through the recommendation of the immediate superior of the employee.

Dear colleague,

This non-serious issue, which is entirely within the rules of any establishment, need not be brought up here. Generally speaking, if leave is granted by the manager while in employment, it must be honored unless there are valid reasons to refuse it on work exigencies' grounds, but certainly not because the approving manager has left the organization.
