I am seeking assistance in training construction workers and unskilled labor at the plant where I currently work. The people here are from backward communities and do not have much of an idea of how the management wants to maintain the site and support the employees.

It may be challenging to implement changes as they may not be open to new suggestions. Nevertheless, it is my responsibility, and I am committed to ensuring that the necessary actions are taken under any circumstances.

Could anyone please provide insights on training topics I can cover for these employees? Coming from a corporate background, this is a new experience for me. Any help provided at the earliest would be greatly appreciated.

First, decide what the objectives of the company are in training the new workers. What exactly are the job responsibilities of these workers? On what basis has the selection been made?

Once you have determined your objectives, engage with the workers and try to understand their mindset. Should the training be relevant to the functions they are expected to perform within the company? Assess their level of job knowledge as this could form the basis for further training.

For instance, if you have a mason, additional training could focus on using the correct proportions of materials for the job and employing more efficient techniques to enhance productivity.

For any training objectives, they need to be defined. In the construction industry, the majority of laborers are unorganized, literate, or semi-literate, and they come from villages. You can cover the following training for your workers:

Non-Technical Training
1. Health and safety training
2. Discipline on the site
3. First Aid training
4. Firefighting training
5. Emergency evacuation, etc.

Technical Training
1. Masonry, welding, etc., training can be provided by experienced workers or supervisors.

Training should be work-oriented. The recipients should be considered either literate or semi-literate, with some work knowledge that needs to be polished as per the requirement. Here is a proposed structure for the training:
