Understanding PF and ESI Deductions: Are Both Employee and Employer Contributions Taken from Salary?

Could you please clarify if both the employee and employer parts of the PF deduction are taken from the salary in the private sector, or only the employee's portion is deducted?

I also would like to know if it is mandatory to contribute to PF with a salary of 19,400. Additionally, is the deduction for ESI compulsory?

You are obviously under ESI coverage (<Rs.21,000). As for PF, if you were already covered under PF, you would continue to be covered even if your salary exceeded Rs. 15,000/-.
