Security Service Providers in Maharashtra: Do They Need a Labor License?

yogendramahajan
Does anyone know if a security service provider requires a Labor License in Maharashtra as well as Mumbai?
Pan Singh Dangwal
In Maharashtra, the Labour Licence is required for "Every establishment in which 50 or more workmen are employed or were employed on any day of the preceding 12 months as contract labour".

However, in regard to Security Agency, the separate "PRIVATE SECURITY AGENCIES (REGULATION) ACT, 2005" is also applicable. Please check your status in the Act as well.

Hi Yogendra,

A CLRA license or Labour license is required for a security agency in Pan India. I don't think any state has exempted security agencies from the CLRA Act.

In Maharashtra, a labor license is not applicable for security guards or supervisors. There is a separate Act, commonly known as the Security Guard Board Act, under which security companies need to apply for exemption for each site with the Board. There are a number of forms that can be obtained from the respective guard board office, and then an application for exemption can be made.
