I am 38 years old with 9 years of experience in the HR field. I am from Pune, currently working as a talent acquisition consultant. I am interested in learning data science or HRIS for the progression of my career. Can any of the experienced members help me with this transition?

Understanding the functional part of an ERP such as PeopleSoft, Oracle, SAP, Navision, IBS will definitely take your career to the next level. Choose any one based on your resources. If you ask me, I'd say knowing how calculations are done in PF & ESI is equally important.

Links below may provide you with advanced understanding in PF & ESI:

Before you decide on the certificate courses as mentioned above, please consider the following points. It's very clear and true that technology is evolving, and HR functions of many companies use HR systems/technology. Companies of any size have started realizing the need for HR technology. Hence, many new companies have started implementing HR systems, and a few companies are migrating to better HR system providers.

There is a wider scope for all the service providers you have mentioned above; they are leaders in the market and have a significant market share. Check the Gartner website for HCM rankings to find the leader. Based on your experience, you should be able to understand the functional part of the system and conduct a search on available positions at the said providers, the required skills, and the advantages.

For example, search for Workday consultants and then understand the required competencies. Continue this for your desired system and positions and make a decision on your own. Another important factor is salary. Let's say your current salary is X, and there may be a position in that system for beginners (remember, you are a fresher to the system, and 9 years is not your experience in the system; you just have a certificate).

Would you accept a position with a reduced salary of 20-50% of what you currently earn? Check the salary range for beginners in the HR system. Look at the available positions in the market, take note of the salary and skills required, and draw your conclusions.
