Is It Safe to Resign Now? Navigating Job Offers and Intent Letters Before March

I appeared in an interview and received an intent letter of joining but not an offer letter. My joining date will be at the end of March. Additionally, when I called the new employer, he mentioned that my appointment has been finalized and advised me not to worry about it. I then emailed them my joining date and the date I would be arriving at the location. Based on this information, is it okay for me to submit my resignation to my current company?
