Facing Legal Trouble Over IT Assets I Returned: How Should I Handle This?

BD_Somu
Hi, I joined and left an IT company within two months in 2016. I submitted all my IT assets at their Bangalore office and received a clearance mail for the same. This happened between May and July, respectively. I received emails from their HR department regarding the payment of outstanding fees not paid for not submitting the laptop. I replied to each email with the clearance mail which I received.

In January 2017, the person who sent me the clearance mail joined the conversation between the HR emails and my replies, stating that I had not submitted the laptop and it was still mapped to me. I replied to him the same, stating that "you issued the clearance mail on 13th August 2016" and I submitted my IT assets, including the laptop, on 26th July 2016. In January 2018, I received a legal notice. However, since it was delivered to my native place, I cannot respond as my parents have not received it. I need help, seriously.

Dear Somu,

We are unable to presume the contents of the Legal Notice sent to you. Please clarify your statement: "I received a legal notice. However, since it was delivered to my hometown, I cannot respond as my parents have not received it."

You may respond to the notice by providing your version regarding the charges substantiated by the emails referenced by you.
