New to HR in Sports? Seeking Advice on Navigating My Role in a Sports NGO

Janice11
Dear All,

Greetings for the day and Happy New Year! I have recently joined an NGO which is involved in sports. They train students for various sports who later represent the country at various platforms. This organization is 7 years old. My role is that of an HR Executive. I have 1 year of experience as an HR in an IT firm.

Kindly suggest how I should go about understanding the role of HR in a sports firm.

Thank you,

Regards,

Janice P.

All sub-functions of HR like recruitment, manpower planning, career guidance, training and development, compensation management including wage and salary administration, incentive schemes, statutory compliance and labor laws, IR, discipline and disciplinary systems, labor welfare, and terminal benefits, etc., would be applicable in a sports setup too. Additionally, the national/international level standards and ethical practices could be specific to the sports field.

Dear HR colleague, In your setup, the trainers and other support staff are your critical employees in the success of the Institute, and your customers are the young aspiring sportsmen and women. Your focus should be on building and putting in place HR systems, policies, and procedures in core HR subsets like talent acquisition, compensation management, performance management, training and development, and reward and recognition in a manner that lends a competitive edge for the staff to stay motivated at peak performance levels. Your role, as I imagine, is going to be both creative and challenging.

Best wishes and good luck.
