Retired and Waiting: How to Prove Your EPF and Gratuity for Tax Purposes?

surya2127
I have retired after completing 58 years of age, but I am yet to receive retirement benefits such as leave encashment and gratuity. Since the EPF amount is exempt from income tax and will be directly credited to the individual's account, how can I prove for income tax purposes that the amount received in my account is from EPF? Similarly, for gratuity and leave encashment (final payment).

Please let me know what documents are required for submission to the income tax department and who will provide them.

When you retire, various amounts will be credited to your pension account. Or if you are not in the government sector, then to the designated bank account. The company will give you a formal statement of accounts like PF statement and details of payment. Your PF account may be maintained by EPFO, and adequate details of the breakdown of PF payment will be given. In case of any query from the IT department, these documents will prove the source of funds.
