Understanding EPFO's Auto Transfer: How Does It Affect Your Job Change?

As per the EPFO circular dated 15th November 2017, the EPFO in its Unified Portal/EPFO Application software has introduced the functionality to carry out the auto transfer of accounts of a member on a change of employment. Members whose UAN and Aadhaar number are entered and matched by the present employer against the existing details available against the UAN would be marked for auto transfer.

Preconditions for Auto Transfer

Members have to satisfy the following preconditions: the Aadhaar number is seeded and verified at the previous establishment; the member's date of joining, date of exit, and reason for exit should be available concerning previous employment; UAN is activated, and a mobile number is available.

Initiation of Auto Transfer

Auto transfer will be initiated once the first payment in respect of the new employee is received from the present employer against the UAN flagged for auto-transfer. SMS and e-mail (if registered) will be sent to the member once the transfer is auto-initiated. There is also a provision for the member to stop the auto transfer by using "Online Services" in the member portal.
