Equal Pay for Equal Work: How Will the Supreme Court's Order Affect Workers Nationwide?

rajendrashinde
Supreme Court's order for equal pay for equal work has prompted the Punjab government to implement this decision for the workers. Additionally, the central government is contemplating applying this order nationwide.

Dear Rajendra Shinde,

Which Supreme Court order on equal pay for equal work are you referring to? The Equal Remuneration Act is a central legislation applicable to Punjab state as well.

Which order is the central government contemplating to apply? Please revert with your specific query.

Respected senior, I request you to share information about the case filed under the Supreme Court - Civil Appeal No. 213 of 2013 - State of Punjab Govt. and others versus Jagjit Singh and others. The decision given by Justices Jagdish Singh Khehar and Justice S.A. Bobde on 26th October 2016, is it implemented for workers by the Punjab Govt. or not? Has the case gone to a higher court? Is the Central Govt. considering giving the same payment to contractual workers as permanent workers receive across India? Or is there any law or act being prepared for the same?
Srinath Sai Ram
Dear Rajendra Shinde,

Contract employees are eligible for the minimum wages applicable to the principal employer as per the relevant Minimum Wages Notification - Central/State.

Thank you.
