Understanding ESI Deductions: Does Absence Affect Eligibility When Salary Drops Below 15,000?

Pradeep math
Hi, I want to know clarification on ESI. If a person draws a gross salary of 20,000 per month and is absent for 5 days in a particular month, resulting in a gross salary of 15,000 at month-end, does he come under ESI deduction? Please help me out.

Kind regards,
Pradeep.

No, the current ESIC limit is Rs. 21,000. If an employee is covered by ESIC, then ESIC coverage remains irrespective of their absence. ESIC exemption is only permitted in April-17 and Oct-17.

Thanks,
Vineet
