Wage Payment Confusion: Should Companies Pay for 26 or 31 Days Including Sundays?

rajputjist
Several times, I have seen some companies paying wages for 26 days (Leave Without Pay) only, while others pay for 31 days, including Sundays (Leave with Pay). Could anyone please tell me what the correct procedure is for wage payments and how much EPF contribution will be deducted?

Currently, in Uttar Pradesh, the minimum wage is approximately 284/day for unskilled labor.

Thanks,
Manoj

Employees who are engaged on daily wages and employees who are engaged on monthly wages get their salary calculated based on their appointment.

Either of the ways has to be followed for both payments and deductions. Using two different ways for the sake of financial gains is illegal and immoral!

Dear Manoj,

Since you are talking about minimum wages, the weekly off day is a component (inclusive) in the Minimum Wages Rate. Therefore, the payment is being made for 26 days/27 days as the case may be. The PF deduction will be at 12% of the basic (Days of work X Rate of wages).
