Confused About Minimum Wages for Contract Workers in Karnataka's Engineering Industry?

Petals_Wings
Can someone please tell me if we are an Engineering Industry in Karnataka, employing Contract Labour, then do we have to pay the contract workers as per the "Engineering Industry" minimum wages or the "Contract Labour" minimum wages? Need an answer urgently, please!!
Srinath Sai Ram
Dear Petal,

Please note that applicable engineering industry minimum wages are payable for direct employees and also to contract employees. By the way, you have not specified the nature of activity for which contract labor is engaged.

Thank you.

Thanks, Srinath, for your reply! We are employing contract labor for engineering work only. However, in the Karnataka Minimum Wages sheet, a separate category is given for contract labor. Who is that applicable to?

MW notification for contract workers in Karnataka has been removed. In its place, we will need to follow the Minimum Wage (MW) for unscheduled employments (copies attached). In other words, contract workers engaged in scheduled industries will have to be paid the MW applicable for those industries. For workers in unscheduled industries, they will need to be paid the MW applicable to unscheduled employments.

Dear Petals Wings,

The minimum wage applicable for the engineering industry is also applicable for employees engaged on a contract basis. The same wage applicable for direct employees should also apply to contract employees. Please ignore any separate category given for contract labor; who is that applicable for?

Thank you.

Changes in Minimum Wage Act for Contract Labor

This is news that the MW Act has removed the separate section providing distinct rates for contract labor not falling under any scheduled industry. Since most contract laborers are employed in scheduled industries like steel plants, mines, construction, plantations, etc., having a separate rate for contract labor was confusing. It is good that the government has removed it. Now, a non-scheduled industry has been introduced, which should be applicable if any contract laborer does not fall into any of the scheduled industries specified therein.

Hi,

Can anybody help me with the different zones in the Karnataka Minimum Wages Act? If our company is located in Bengaluru Aerospace Park, Devanahalli Taluk, then which zone would it fall under?
