Navigating Career Transitions: How Can I Secure an HR Executive Role and Better Salary?

Suresh Eachankattur
Dear Cite HR members,

I would like to share my working experiences after completing my MBA in HR. I have 1.6 years of experience as an HR executive, followed by 6 months as an IT recruiter, then 1 year as a liaison officer, and another 1.6 years as a cashier. Currently, I have been working as a Personal Assistant for the past 2 years.

Job Transitions and Career Aspirations

The reason for my job transitions has been my desire to work as an HR executive. However, sometimes I ended up switching roles without fully analyzing the job fit, leading me to realize that the current job was not suitable for me. Consequently, my 7 years have passed since 2010 when I finished my postgraduate MBA.

Seeking Advice on Career Path and Salary

I kindly request senior members to suggest how I can choose the right job and secure a good salary.

Thank you.

I understand your situation. Sometimes life does not offer proper choices, and we do not choose the right opportunity. In desperation to get a job, we land in anything the employer offers during the interview. Later on, we do regret. However, all is not lost. One should know and learn what each post holds in terms of roles and responsibilities.

Being a person with an HR qualification, you have worn several hats during the seven years. Take this as a positive learning experience and additional skill sets. Redo your resume and highlight in your objective that you are keen on accepting HR roles. However, when it comes to competencies, you mention your skill sets as handling cash, Personal Assistant role, etc. Apply to advertisements or if you are on Naukri, mention as heading Executive HR with MBA Qualifications with 7 years of experience in different roles. Be strict with the job offers you receive and politely refuse any offer that is not related to HR, even as a temporary stop-gap arrangement. You have to be firm and assertive.

Best wishes
