Navigating ESIC Rules: Can an Employee's Father Get Angioplasty Without 2 Years of Contributions?

Hello Everyone,

One of our employees' father needs to have an angioplasty. I sent him to the ESIC hospital, where the authorities have told him that the member has to have at least two years of contribution in the ESIC to avail facilities such as angioplasty. I need to know if this is true and what else can be done to help him.

Hi,

As per my knowledge, for Extended Sickness Benefit under ESIC, an Insured Person should have been in continuous employment for 2 years or more at the beginning of a spell of sickness in which the disease is diagnosed. Super Specialty Treatment for Family/Dependents

This is a case of super specialty treatment for family/dependents. According to ESI norms, an employee is entitled to super specialty treatment after 3 months of service, provided that they have paid 39 days' contributions. For family members and dependent parents, the requirement is six months of service with a contribution of 78 days each. The benefit period requirements applicable to sickness benefits do not apply in this scenario.

Recently, the government had initially decided to extend the service requirement to 2 years but later retracted this decision due to protests. It is unclear if this decision has been officially withdrawn.
