Hi Ashima,

Stress in professional life is one of the greatest reasons for work-life imbalance. While some individuals experience stress only in their personal life, a few others face stress in both personal and professional aspects. However, the majority endure stress solely in their professional life, which in turn negatively impacts their social life.

So for your research and questionnaire, if you select "due to personal stress," positive results are very low. However, for professional stress, this is what the world is facing today.

Hello, Sir,

Thank you very much for such a fruitful suggestion. You are absolutely right. Overwork in professional life is causing such an imbalance. It would be nice of you if you could email some material or research on it.

There are several bodies in the world that have done pioneering work on the same. Check out with DGFASLI (Central Labour Institute, Sion, Mumbai), NIOSH (US), CCOSH (Canada), Indian Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. There is an Institute of Occupational Health in Hyderabad. HSE (UK). I am myself an auditor of occupational health and safety OHSAS 18001 yet not into research.

I totally agree that due to overtime and stress at work, our personal life is ruined. However, this even affects the work-life balance because of personal life tensions. It is very true that today HR faces problems when there is stress in personal life, and work-life balance is affected.

For example, usually, women leave their jobs after marriage. When an employee's family members fall sick, work-life balance is affected due to stress or excessive leaves. Some employees facing personal problems at home are not able to concentrate on their work, which reduces their productivity.

In such situations, HR needs to take special initiatives to understand the need for counseling to avoid these problems. For instance, avoiding late sitting for female employees, providing maternity leaves, avoiding work on public holidays and Sundays, offering compensatory leaves, providing LTA, and having a Mediclaim policy for employees and their family members, among other measures.

Best Regards,
Tina
