Can I Still Get My Bonus If I Resign Before the Financial Year Ends? Seeking Advice!

kashew
Hi, I am currently working at WNS Global Services (India). My wedding is in February, and since my fiancé stays abroad, I have to move out and leave the company. My company's notice period is 3 months. I was planning to resign in the month of February so that I stay till April and wait until the bonus and appraisal processes are complete.

But I am highly doubtful whether a person who has resigned before the completion of the financial year, i.e., before 31st March, is eligible for the bonus or not. Any leads will be highly appreciated.

Thanks.

Any employee who has worked for a minimum of 30 days in an accounting year is entitled to a bonus for that year, whether they are in employment on the date of the declaration of the bonus or not.

If you are an employee within the definition of the term as per the Bonus Act, i.e., your wages should be less than Rs 21,000/- per month, and if you have worked for 30 days in the accounting year in question, you are eligible for a bonus. If not, it will be at the discretion of the management.

As for bonuses, you are eligible for a bonus since you have worked more than 30 days in the accounting year. If it is ex-gratia, the policy depends on the industry, varying from industry to industry, and is entirely at the discretion of management. Determine whether you are entitled to a bonus or ex-gratia, and then you can decide.
