Navigating Employee Benefits: Will a Nominee Receive EDIL Scheme Support After a Tragic Loss?

STPL2016
One of my employees has completed one year in the organization, but he died in a train accident on 9th July 2017. He is covered under the ESIC & PF Scheme.

My query is, will his nominee get the benefit of the EDIL scheme as per the Act?

Suggestions needed.

Yes, his legal heir will get benefits under the Employees' Deposit Linked Insurance (EDLI) Scheme for EPF office. These benefits have recently been revised to 4.50 lakhs, which are based on his age and salary.

Maximum amount payable under EDLI is Rs 6 lakhs. This has no relevance to the age of the deceased but it is calculated as follows:

Average monthly salary (subject to a maximum of Rs 15,000) multiplied by 30, which amounts to a maximum of Rs 450,000.

Add: 50% of the average balance in the PF, subject to a maximum of Rs 150,000.

Legal heirs shall mean the spouse, children, and if not married, his/her parents.

Dear All,

If an employee has completed 2 days of service and while coming on duty, he met with a road accident, will he be eligible for EDLI benefits? Please guide on this.

Regards,
Parag
